#4 Alta Coffee

I know I haven't done any cafés yet, so this will be my
first entry of a coffee place!

Alta Coffee. I stopped by this place after dining at Eat Chow.
The moment I walked into this place, the aroma of espresso beans
welcomed me in. When I looked to the right side of the entrance,
I saw a wall of colorful artwork. I always love seeing artwork in cafés.

There's also a nice patio place with lots of seating.
The atmosphere of the café is very comfy and homey.

They also have shelves full of books and mugs.
The sign says, "Feel free to take a book.. but please replace it with another."
And customers leave their mugs, if they wish, so they can use it every time they visit.

Even though I'm not a vegan, I love drinking almond milk!
and I was so happy to see that they serve almond milk (at extra charge).
One of Alta's specialty latte is the Toffee Latté - topped with whipped cream,
chocolate, and toffee bits. If you're feeling something sweet,
this is definitely something to try!

They also serve breakfast and lunch. I would love to go back to try the food.

#3 Eat Chow

This is my very late follow-up to Eat Chow in Newport!
Much has happened in the past month and
I could not find the time to blog! My apologies.
So.......

Eat Chow, it was nice to be near the beach
and feel the ocean breeze right outside the restaurant.
I had to wait about 20 minutes while the staff
transitioned from breakfast menu to lunch/dinner menu.
If you want breakfast, I suggest you go before 11am on the
weekdays and 12:30pm on the weekends.
It was unfortunate because I originally decided to
come here for breakfast food but I had to settle for
lunch/dinner menu. The service was very friendly but a little slow.

It was interesting walking to the bathroom because
the restaurant is connected to a baby boutique next door
called Bel Bambini. There are actually 3-4 tables
set out in between those two stores.

OK, let's talk food.

We started off with fried green tomato appetizer.
It was my first time trying this plate but it was pleasant!
The cornmeal coating adds the crunchy texture to
the tomatoes and I loved the tanginess of
the salsa that adds to each bite.

And onto the entrées..

Truffle Mac N Cheese - I have to be honest.. This was a bit disappointing.
The bacon and oyster mushrooms were too salty for my taste.
When I looked into the bottom of the plate,
there was a puddle of excess oil.
First, it's not attractive to see a puddle of oil on any dish.
Second, after half way through the plate I just couldn't eat anymore of it.
I'm a huge fan of truffle mac n cheese so I'd like to
try it at different places. Eat Chow just isn't the place I'd
come back for their Truffle Mac N Cheese.

Reuben - This is basically a hot pastrami sandwich, BUT!
It was gooood pastrami and grilled sourdough
added such great texture - chewy and crunchy.
We had an option to get side greens or caesar salad..
but we opted for the truffle fries. They're almost like shoestring fries,
my personal favorite. I just couldn't stop eating these.

Despite the disappointing experience with
Truffle Mac N Cheese, I would go back if I happen to be in the area.
I would like to try breakfast at Eat Chow next time.
